Where Have I Been????

Hey guys! I honestly have no idea where to start with this post. It has been way too long since my last Vlog/Blog update and I'm really sorry. I'm totally bummed at myself for not keeping up. I also haven't done anything on my Beauty channel either :( I am coming up on my 30 Week of this pregnancy!!! Where did the time go?? Well, let me start off by saying a big reason why I haven't vlogged is because I got some bad news on my 1 hour Glucose test so I had to go to the 3 hour one. My doctor was totally freaking me out and I was on my way to a little family getaway when I got the call, so it completely ruined my weekend. I scored 197 on my first test. The norm should be under around 135, so I was REALLY high. My doctor said there was a 75% chance that I had Gestational Diabetes and was totally convinced that I did. I got SO scared. Actually my first thought was shame. I felt like I did something wrong or like I was in trouble! My mind started racing because I didn't know anything about GD nor did I know anyone who had it. Everyone was telling me it's common, but I was still freaked out. I ended up doing the 3 hour test and PASSED! My little body just takes longer to metabolize that much sugar than normal people I guess. I was really relieved, but I still had a bad feeling inside that really made me depressed. So, that was only a couple weeks ago.

Before that I had lost my video camera cord so I couldn't charge my camera to film. I also didn't blog because I kept thinking I would find it and just do the Vlog...a month later and still no videos!! I was starting to feel really guilty and so behind on a lot of things in my life. My daughter started Kindergarten this year, so I'm still trying to get used to the whole pick up/drop off thing and also having my 3 year old at home with me. I don't do well with change, so it's taken me some time to get into the groove. The holidays were also SO hectic!! I think I have a million excuses, but the bottom line is I'm starting here and now with this blog post...

My body has changed so much since I last filmed!! We also decided on a first name for our baby boy!! It will be Maikah. I know the spelling is a little crazy, but that's just kind of how we roll :) I love the name and have loved it for so long. Baby is kicking like crazy and I almost can't wait for him to grow more so he has less room to sock me from the inside. Sleeping is harder as my hips go numb so often that I am constantly switching sides and waking myself up every couple hours. I also still have a horrible sinus issue, bleh.

On a lighter note, I've gotten a lot of cute things for baby and more Maternity clothes to show you! I'm not sure if I will do the fashion video on my Vlog or on my Beauty channel, but I'll keep you posted. I'm going to stop because I think I can go on forever filling you guys in, but I pretty much covered what I wanted to say and just want to move forward! Oh and BTW we adopted a baby kitten that is attacking my fingers right now as I type so it's making it really hard lol.
I hope you are all doing really well! I'm on my Facebook page all the time and I'll be posting any new Vlogs over there so come say hi! If you subscribe to my Vlog channel then it will automatically email you the link :) I'm HapamandaMama over on YouTube.

Talk soon!

Pregnancy Week 18 & 19: Quad Screening, Scary Moment and Maternity Styling!

Hi Everyone!
I can't believe it's already into week 19 of my pregnancy. I remember my 2nd pregnancy going by kind of fast, but this seems really fast. I guess ask me again when I'm like 8 months lol. Like I said in the video, I haven't had time or the energy to do my vlog on Maternity Fashion. I really want to do it and I have all the outfits picked out. It just takes a long time to create the actual video when you are doing it by yourself. I just might have to enlist my husband to help me. In the meantime I did put together some of my favorite pieces I got (see below for the Maternity Styling section!!
Next week I have my 20 week checkup with my doctor. I assume I will also have to make an appointment to get the big ultrasound done soon after that. That ultrasound is always the most fun because at this point the baby is big enough to see a lot of features and CONFIRM the sex of the baby. I always get really good pictures at this ultrasound. The tests they are doing are the Quad Screen Tests. Here is some info from American Pregnancy that can explain it better than I can :)

What does the quad screen test look for?
The quad screen measures high and low levels of AFP, abnormal levels of hCG and estriol, and high levels of Inhibin-A. The results are combined with the mother’s age and ethnicity in order to assess probabilities of potential genetic disorders.
High levels of AFP may suggest that the developing baby has a neural tube defect such as spina bifida or anencephaly. However, the most common reason for elevated AFP levels is inaccurate dating of the pregnancy.
Low levels of AFP and abnormal levels of hCG and estriol may indicate that the developing baby has Trisomy 21(Down syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome) or another type of chromosome abnormality.
FALL MATERNITY STYLING
I will be doing a full style video on more outfits, but I at least wanted to get this one out to you :)
I also put styling ideas on my Pinterest page! So check that out if you want to see more!
The 2 main places I shopped at was Forever21 and Old Navy. I shop online only as I already know my sizing and they usually don't have what I want once I get to the store :p If you don't know how their sizing fits to your body, go on in and try some stuff on to get an estimate of what size you are in. I like to shop Forever21 for their leggings. They are amazing for the entire pregnancy. They have super cute prints. And to my surprise they have a lot of oversized "Boyfriend" sweaters and REALLY cute boots for fall/winter! Yes, I am 34 shopping at Forever21. As long as it fits, is cute and inexpensive...I'm ALL over it :) They are also things I can wear after the baby is born instead of just getting Maternity only clothes. I always find discount codes on retailmenot.com HOWEVER if you use a code it automatically makes your sale FINAL. So be careful if you use a code as an FYI.
Here are some cute things from Forever21 in the video and others I think would make great Mat styling pieces!

The Book I am loving right now is...
Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth about Pregnancy and Childbirth
"Oh, the joys of pregnancy! There's the gassiness, constipation, queasiness, and exhaustion, the forgetfulness, crankiness, and the constant worry. Of course, no woman is spared the discomforts and humiliations of pregnancy, but most are too polite to complain or too embarrassed to talk about them. Not Jenny McCarthy! In the New York Times best-selling Belly Laughs, actress and new mother Jenny McCarthy reveals the naked truth about the tremendous joys, the excruciating pains, and the unseemly disfigurement that go along with pregnancy. Never shy, frequently crude, and always laugh-out-loud funny, McCarthy covers it all in the grittiest of girlfriend detail. From morning sickness and hormonal rage, to hemorrhoids, pregnant sex, and the torture and sweet relief that is delivery, Belly Laughs is must-read comic relief for anyone who is pregnant, who has ever been pregnant, is trying to get pregnant, or, indeed, has ever been born!"

Pregnancy Week 17 & 18 - Ummmmm What is up with my emotions???

Hey everyone!
Sorry this blog/video is late this week. I had a rough weekend and an extra rough day. I really didn't feel like recording today but this is REAL. I can't just film when I'm all happy go lucky. Pregnancy isn't perfect and there are a lot of hormones affecting my mind and all my emotions. I've been pretty good so far, until today. Here is a video in the RAW. No staging and no editing out bad stuff. This is ME....at 17.5 weeks :)

I think I just need some good rest and some time to myself. I've been super crazy cleaning the house but just haven't been taking care of myself. I need to get back to that because it's not benefiting anyone.

Is ANYONE in the same boat? Please Share!!!

Week 15 & 16 of My Pregnancy! BOY or GIRL???

This week has obviously been so exciting finding out the sex of our little one. Unfortunately I think I might be coming down with some sort of cold :( I'm hoping it's nothing big and will pass quickly! I can't afford to be sick or to get anyone else sick!!

My daughter, Kaya, turned 3 last weekend and we had a really nice little get together with my family. We have decided not to do big birthday parties until they are older. They never remember anyways! Plus with another baby on the way we need to save our pennies :)

Please let me know if you have any questions that you want me to talk about in next week's video! Requests are always welcome!! Don't forget I have a beauty channel if you feel like getting all pretty for the day :) Thanks so much for stopping by! See you next week :)

NOTE: About my early braxton hicks contractions
Braxton Hicks contractions start as early as 6 weeks, but are usually felt sometime around 20 weeks. Women who have had previous pregnancies may notice them sooner, and some women may not even notice them at all.
I think I'll be ok, but will still let my Dr know :)

Here's just a funny video of my 3 year old :)

McKay Summer Update! June 2013

Hey Everyone!
Just an update on what's been going on this past year!!
First of all, Kiyoko just finished her 1st year of Preschool and did absolutely amazing. I know every parent thinks their kid is the smartest kid in the class, but KoKo really is pretty close!! She is a bit older than the other kids because she missed the cutoff for registration by a couple weeks! It's ok because she excelled in every aspect. She can write every letter of the alphabet, spell her name, Kaya's name and all her cousin's names (of course). She is also doing great at counting and she has gotten up to 100 with a little help. Now that school is over we enrolled her in a 2 week intensive swim class. She is almost done and I am so proud of the effort she has put in. Fortunately she was able to be in the same class that her friend, Drew, is in from her preschool. We plan to do some more activities after this class. We also went out and bought a bunch of crafty/artsy things for her to do this summer to keep her busy. She starts Kindergarden at Malcom Elementary School in September!!! I can't believe it. It's a great school and ranks high on the academic scale. I know she will thrive although she says she will really miss her preschool friends that are still staying at the same school as last year.
As for Kaya, she has become a real little girl now. Although her speech is mostly understood by us only, she has a LOT to say about everything. She is very different from KoKo and likes to take risks and often gets a bit rebellious. She too missed the deadline to enter preschool by 21 days!!!! :((( So, she will not be starting preschool for another year but will still be 2 years apart in grades. Kaya has also been taking swim lessons. She is in a class that is 0-2 years old and she is almost 3, so she is a bit advanced for the group, but loves it nonetheless. We are in the midst of potty training and this time around we are just letting nature take it's course. I'm trying not to stress too hard about it and let her do her thang :)
We are having a great year so far and even look forward to expanding our family someday. We'll just have to see!!!
Happy Summer Smiles,
Amanda

A little video I made of KoKo's summer swimming fun :)
